Abel graduated from the National University of Singapore with an honours degree in Industrial Design. His dissertation on a redesigned scaffold system to mitigate construction fall-from-height incidences won the gold medal for the NUS-JTC I3 Center Innovation Medal & Prize for Design.
Abel began his career by delving into the research of lightweight structures found in marine sponges of which he contributed to the publishing of two journal publications. This research explored the possibilities of biomimetic solutions derived from marine sponges for applications in orthopaedic medicine.
Abel had other work experience in Singapore’s Nestlé Research Centre as a structural packaging designer where he explored & developed innovative ways of packaging for Milo & Nescafé for the South East Asian market.
In his free time, Abel enjoys playing board games, touch rugby and hosting people with his wife in their home.
